§ 6.02. Number, selection, and term.

  • The Legislative and governing body of the City shall consist of a Mayor and five (5) Councilmen and shall be known as the "City Council of the City of Tomball, Harris County, Texas."

    A.

    The Mayor shall be elected from the City at large. The Councilmen shall be elected from the City at large by positions known as Positions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

    B.

    The Mayor shall be the presiding officer of the Council and shall be recognized as the head of the City Government for all ceremonial purposes and by the Governor for purposes of military law. The Mayor shall be allowed to vote only in case of a tie vote and shall not have the authority to veto any action of the Council.

    C.

    The Mayor and each Councilman shall hold office for a period of three (3) years or until his successor is elected and qualified. All elections shall be held in the manner provided for by this Charter and the election laws of the State of Texas.

    D.

    There shall be no limitation of elected terms for the Office of Mayor and Councilman.
